The opening
On 24 August 2023, Martina Klement, State Secretary for Digitalisation and Administrative Modernisation and CDO of the State of Berlin, together with the project director Oliver Schruoffeneger, District Councillor in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, opened the interactive information exhibition on Hardenbergplatz. On this occasion, the pilot project SMART SPACE Hardenbergplatz was presented to the press and the interested public.
With the SMART SPACE at Hardenbergplatz, one of the five Berlin Smart City pilot projects is being implemented. I am delighted to be able to illustrate here that the digital transformation is being implemented in various spheres and can thus make a real contribution to making the city more flexible and smart for Berlin's citizens.Martina Klement

The seating of the newly opened information exhibition was taken up by visitors to Hardenbergplatz immediately after its inauguration in summery temperatures.
Together with the exhibition, the participation site for the pilot project mein.Berlin.de was opened. Here, anyone interested can get involved in the project and contribute their own ideas.
Tracing and rhythm analysis
The exhibition opening was accompanied by a systematic observation of the square, a so-called tracing and rhythm analysis. The analysis documents the initial situation of the square, as well as the various user groups, uses and movement flows. To make this possible, students from the TU Berlin recorded the movements and usage behaviour on Hardenbergplatz for 18 hours a day for seven days.
This experimental exhibition approach is symbolic of the administration's will to redefine urban space and its use together with Berlin's urban society. The prototypical booking and negotiation platform involves the interest groups at Hardenbergplatz and maps their needs.Oliver Schruoffeneger
