The Path to Smart Water

The process
The SmartWater project follows the phases of public-interest-oriented transformation, as outlined in the "Strategy Gemeinsam Digital Berlin" handbook.
Phase 1: Preliminary Process
The journey began with the Kick-Off Event on 22 February 2023. For the first time, representatives from all stakeholders came together to exchange ideas, initiatives, and visions for the project.
Between February and December 2023, several steering meetings and expert dialogues were held as part of this initial phase. These sessions identified the needs of different user groups and discussed the resulting requirements for the tool. Additionally, the two pilot areas for the project were determined.
Phase 2: Exploration
Between January and June 2024, the focus shifted to a detailed exploration of target groups, their needs, and their requirements. Further workshops were held to develop click-dummies – prototypes simulating the eventual website interface.
Phase 3: Testing
The testing of the click-dummies is planned for July 2024 to June 2025. During this phase, the prototypes will undergo rigorous expert and user testing (e.g., hallway and usability tests) to assess their practical feasibility.
Phase 4: Development
From March 2025 to April 2026, the three prototypes will be fully developed and programmed, creating the technical foundation for the applications to be utilised in the project.
Phase 5: Scaling and Implementation
In the final phase, from May to September 2026, the completed applications will be handed over to the future operators. They will be responsible for hosting and long-term maintenance of the platforms.
The SmartWater project aims to conclude successfully by September 2026.
